Change Drive Media Type in Windows to/from HDD/SSD

Does drive defragmentation/optimization not see the correct drive type and make the optimize option unavailable or fail?

The drive defragment tool needs to know if your drive is a hard disk drive or solid state drive to function properly.

Follow these steps:

  1. Press "Windows key + W" from the keyboard.
  2. Type "Administrative tools" without quotes in the search box.
  3. Select "Administrative tools" option from the list.
  4. Then right click on "Windows PowerShell ISE" and select "Run as Administrator" option.
  5. Type "WinSAT diskformal" without quotes in the PowerShell and hit Enter.

Now run the Defragment and Optimize Drives program to see if the media type is correct, either "Solid state drive" or "Hard disk drive".
